Greg met with representatives from Kent County Council, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, and construction firm Lafarge Tarmac to mark the start of work on the much-anticipated congestion-busting Longfield Road scheme.
Greg commented:
"This is an important day for Tunbridge Wells with work actually starting on the ground to try and sort out the traffic nightmare of North Farm. It's also great news that Kent Highways is planning to keep disruption to a minimum by limiting road closures to the night so that businesses on North Farm can continue to operate as normal. The combination of this project with the A21 dualling and the plan to reduce congestion along the A26, means that we can all look forward to happier days on our local roads."
The £5m scheme aims to improve existing highway capacity by:
- widening Longfield Road between Dowding Way Roundabout and the A21 Roundabout
- introducing a new roundabout at Kingstanding Way/Longfield Road junction
- introducing a new roundabout to replace T-junction at Knights Park /Longfield Road junction
- providing a gyratory style junction at Great Lodge/Longfield Road junction
The funding is being provided under the Department for Transport's Local Pinch Point Fund Scheme. The overall scheme will cost £5m, with Kent Council Council will be contributing £1.5m towards the project.
